Zimbamoto is gearing up for a mini-tour up inside BC. Hitting Quesnel and Smithers. Excited to play for some new folks. Hello all! Life takes over and Zhambai is a little quiet as Zimbamoto is a bit busier these days. Zimbamoto will be playing this Friday at the Vancouver World Music Festival and then in May the Zimbamoto Trio (Kurai, Curtis and Mark) will play at Calabash. Jan.30, 2018

Hear ye! Hear ye! The music is recorded. The album is being mixed, the date is set. The debut album but Zimbamoto (our larger group) is ready to be released into the world. See all the info to the right. We had an awesome time in Monarch studios in July and August and am sure you will all be truly impressed by the result. No Zhambai gigs on the horizon, but members of the group are busy as can be. May 11/12 sees Curtis and Kurai engaged in a great collaboration with some other African artists. And stay tuned in the later year for Zimbamoto's first ever recording!!! January, 20, 2017
Happy New Year from us! Luckily we don't have to wait long until our first gig of 2017. Feb.9 we'll be playnig a set in support of a very worthy cause: education in rural Africa, Ghana to be precise. Zhambai's Curtis Andrews does education development work in the village of Dzogadze while his friend Dr. Kofi Gbolonyo does even more work (including starting his own music-centric academy!). The fundaraiser on Feb.9 will go towards supporting these initiatives. Come and give some support, or simply donate on-line (see under events on the right). July 25, 2016
Man oh man...what a time in Newfoundland! Zimbamoto played some awesome shows, made new fans, and absolutely melted the Ship Pub with a nearly 2-hour set (with no break!). Crowd loved it (as part of the Sound Symposium). Now we are back. No Zhambai action coming up but Zimbamoto will be playing in Kelowna as part of the West Kelowna World Music Festival. Should be a good time as we've never played out there before. We'll be having a special guest in place of guitar though, reed master Colin Maskell! July 2, 2016
Curtis is from there. Kurai has been there a couple of times. But now, Zimbamoto will come in full-force to give Newfoundland something it has never had before. With the help of a Canada Council grant, all 5 members of Zimbamoto (including Kurai's one-of-a-kind "spacejet" marimba will be on The Rock from July 8-16. Check the date on the right. For those who were at the Fairview Pub last Friday you know who awesome it was. A modest trunout but a great showing of music and dance. Great energy. We hope to play there again in the future. And we're back! A small Xmas break for us all and ready to start 2015 with some music. Winter is usually pretty quiet on the music front, we shall see what the summer brings. November almost over! Zhambai has been a little dormant, Curtis back in school, Kurai back from a stint in Zimbabwe. We have a show coming up on Nov.29 with Tarab and Zimbamoto though. Should be awesome. December will be a little quiet after that. See what 2014 brings!! June 14, 2013
Hello all, a bit quiet on our front but a little Zimbamoto action tomorrow night at Just Dance in Kits. See the link to the right. Excited to be doing that. Zhambai and Zimbamoto will both be performing at Mission Folk Fest in late July as well. Other than, Zimbamoto will play an evening of music at Chai on Main St. Should be interesting. Well, things have been a little quiet on the Zhambai front. Curtis was away for awhile and Kurai unavailable too, but Zimbamoto will be playing a few tunes at a fundraiser coming up. Holiday season is upon us and we in the Zhambai Trio hope it treats you all well. We'll be taking a little break from shows until January as Curtis is gone visiting family in ON and NL until mid-January. In other news, the awesome photgrapher Diane Smithers who did the pics for our album is in need of some help. Her gear and hard drives (with 1000's of awesome photos and years of work) were stolen a few months ago. She has set a fundraising campaign to help get back on track. Details are HERE Nov.28/2012
A quick shout to let you all know about a great band, direct from Zimbabwe on tour for the past 5 months in North Amercia. Bongo Love shared the bill at the Zhambai Trio CD release back and June and rocked the place with their original Zimbo vibes featuring marimba, mbira, guitar, percussion and voices. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we can't attend the Mundial Montreal Conference. Hopefully we can still arrange for some opportunities in the future, possibly a summer tour across Canada if all things line up and the funding Gods agree. Nominated!! We've been selected as a nominee for World Music Group of the Year at the 2012 Canadian Folk Music Awards! Not sure what this all means, but it must be good. The function happens on Nov.16 so we'll what happens on Nov.17. (Unfortunately we can't attend the awards show) We've also been invited to showcase at Mundial Montreal in November. Hopefully we get the travel funding because without it, we can't go. It is a great opportunity to meet other artists and more importantly, presenters and festival directors from across Canada. Zhambai is about to head out to Sunshine Music Festival in Powell River. We'll give a workshop on Friday night and a concert on Saturday night. Should be fun. Also planning a mini island tour in early November..hopefully it pans out. We'd love to play over there. And in some great news, we've been invited to shocase at Mundial Montreal, a new world music showcase for Canadian artists being held on Nov.13-16 in wonderful (and cold) Montreal, PQ. Hopefully we can get some nice gigs out of it. Aug.1/2012
Busy times on the Zhambai front. After the album release Curtis spent some time in Newfoundland, Kurai went to the awesome Zimbabwean music camp Nhemamusasa North (on Vancouver Island). We just played a couple of great shows, especially a treat to play at the Dr. Sun Yat Sen classical Chinese garden. What an atmosphere. And great crowd too. A couple of other gigs in August and September and then a little silent as Curtis heads to Germany for a month with Uzume Taiko. The CD has been getting great reviews from all kinds of people and we can't wait to (hopefully) tour next summer to other parts of BC and Canada. See if this whole machine can work for us. We did it!! Through Indigogo we managed to raise the $2500 we aspired to to complete our debut CD. CD release date has been confirmed!!! June 21 at The Waldorf Hotel in Vancouver. ZimbaMoto will be supporting us and lifting the roof as well. Special guests all the way from Zimbabwe(!) are Bongo Love. It'll be a hot, hot night for sure. Mark it in your calendars. Curtis is back from 2 months in India and good things on the horizon. 3 days in the studio with Paul Shatto at Vogville Studios in late November yielded some tasty fruit. We have 10 tracks ready to release!! Now we need to do some fundraising to get this baby out by June hopefully. Stay tuned (or join our mailing list) for info on a fundraising gig in later March and release details. ZimbaMoto will be doing a CBC radio recording/concert on Mar.2 which will be recorded for CBC radio as well as on video for web broadcast. Details at right. Thanks to everyone who came out to the recent show at Cafe Deux Soleils...sold out and people dancing on the tables!! That is what we like to see. Music and vibe felt great. This Thursday, Zhambai will head in Vogville Studios to record a bunch of music with Paul Shatto. This is through a demo grant program we availed of via MusicBC. Should sound good! |
